The material gives a cursory foundation for new designers and those looking for transition to web/app design.
Unfortunately, too many courses during the pandemic have taken advantage of students’ misfortune by raising prices while cutting course content. They do this as an attempt to upsell students to more expensive courses. Thinking With Type is a practical typography resource that introduces the principles of typography, and explains how to choose and work with type across a range of projects and applications. Visual Grammar presents the principles by which a visual field can be composed, and how the relationships between elements create meaning. It’s an abstract, illustrative book that conveys principles such as “influence”—the way two objects appear to act upon one another. The real learning begins when you actually practice and apply your skills to UX projects.

Released in late 2019, there has been a lot of hype around this book—co-author Cliff Kuang is not only a seasoned UX designer, but an award-winning tech journalist and a fantastic writer.

This manual was also recommended by Pere Rosales, «a born innovator who you should follow right now». This book teaches you how to design websites and products systematically as well as how to create, document, and maintain design systems. Krug’s ability to demonstrate pairing testing and fixing products down to its essentials, conveys how realistic it is for teams to test early and often – catching problems while it’s still easy to fix them.

The books I’m about to recommend should be a part of any UX reading list, as these books will help regardless of your experience. Even in 2023, in the era of working-from-home and online collaboration, reading UX books can be your go-to choice when you want to become a UX designer. While bootcamps and courses are either online or postponed, you can still order one or two books to read. This book has been specially written for those interested in UX design yet unsure of where to start.
